The LGBT+ Conservatives are proud to announce the creation of an official Ally Membership, designed for individuals who share our values and want to support our work, even if they are not members of the LGBT+ community themselves.
Allies have always been at the heart of our organization – and our membership already boasts hundreds of ally members. From the very beginning, their support has been vital in driving forward our mission of meaningful change for LGBT+ people in the United Kingdom – one that doesn’t treat them like victims but instead empowers them, gives them the same rights as everyone else and allows them to thrive. We are delighted to formalize this role and give allies a clear way to join.
The first official Ally Member was Dr Ben Spencer MP, setting a strong precedent for collaboration and advocacy. Dr Ben has been a strong advocate for progress to the goal to ending all new cases of HIV, to give just one example.
Since then, many prominent Conservative figures – including Rt. Hon. Tom Tugendhat MP, Alicia Kearns MP, Katie Lam MP and Rt. Hon. Esther McVey MP to name just a few - have partnered with us on events, initiatives, and projects that champion us, our LGBT+ Conservative patrons and the work they do.
This new membership category therefore recognizes the invaluable contributions of allies and provides a platform for even greater involvement. Whether through attending events, supporting campaigns, or amplifying our message, Ally Members will continue to play a key role in the LGBT+ Conservatives as we work towards the next election, raise money to support LGBT+ Conservative candidates and build an ambitious, true blue Conservative Party manifesto for LGBT+ people.
Join us today and stand with LGBT+ Conservatives as an Ally. Together, we can continue building a party where everyone feels welcome and represented.
Responding to the announcement, Jamie Mulhall, Deputy Chairman of the LGBT+ Conservatives commented: “Joining the LGBT Conservatives as an ally is a fantastic way to prove that "true blue" values and a big, inclusive heart go hand-in-hand. Plus we’re widely known for throwing the best parties in the party! It’s all about standing shoulder-to-shoulder with your mates to ensure the tent is big enough for everyone, proving that you don't have to be anything other than yourself to be a champion for freedom and fairness.”
Responding to the announcement, Dr David Jeffery, Vice-Chair for Outreach commented: "LGBT Tories is a space for anyone, regardless of sexuality, who likes to mix campaigning with socialising. So, if you want to meet new people and get Conservatives elected come to one of our many welcoming socials!"
Responding to the announcement, Samuel Hemsley, Vice-Chair for Membership, commented: “The success of our group, and LGBT + rights more widely, don’t just come from our members or the LGBT community. They were achieved my many allies who supported our cause , whether they be family, friends or colleagues. The LGBT Tories welcome anyone regardless of sexuality, we welcome all those who support our values of Pride, freedom and opportunity, and who like to have a fun time at our amazing events while doing it!”
