Emma Best AM has been re-elected as the Deputy Leader of the City Hall Conservatives.
Long-standing member and patron of the LGBT+ Conservatives, Emma Best AM, has been re-elected as the Deputy Leader of the City Hall Conservatives. Emma will work with Susan Hall AM, who was elected as the Leader of the City Hall Conservatives.
Responding to the results, Chairman, Luke Robert Black MBE, welcomed the news: "Emma is a much-loved and respected patron of the LGBT+ Conservatives. It is therefore fantastic to see her re-elected - and I know our members will be thrilled to see her back in post"
"Emma resumes this role at a time that London is crying out for an alternative to Labour and Sir Sadiq Khan's mayoralty. London is less safe, less vibrant, less prosperous and less fun since Boris and the Conservatives left City Hall. I know that Emma will continue to do an excellent job holding a Sir Sadiq to account, challenge him on years of presentation-only politics and fight for a pro-business, pro-growth, safe and flourishing city that rivals New York, Paris, Berlin and Tokyo".
"Emma has also been a strong (if not vital) voice for LGBT+ venues, hospitality and nightlife in London. Through her detail-focussed work, we've seen Sir Sadiq sack his woeful Nightlife Tsar Amy Lamé and be shamed into action after 8 years of inertia. This work will be needed again as Labour hammers nightlife and hospitality with punishing taxes on jobs, business rate increases and minimum wage increases. Locally, it is Sir Sadiq and his Labour councils that are smothering businesses in red tape - and not even letting them operate al fresco dining in Zone 1. In Emma, LGBT+ venues, hospitality and nightlife businesses can find a relentless supporter - this will only continue as Emma resumes this important role.
Responding to the announcement, Vice Chair for Membership Jamie Mulhall welcomed the news: ""Emma Best AM is a rising star of the London Conservative team in City Hall. She is diligent, hard working and I am utterly thrilled to see she has been reelected as Deputy Leader. Her work especially on London's struggling nightlife, which faces constant attacks from Labour, be it at a council level, City Hall level or national level, has gained significant attention. Proud to call her a patron of the LGBT+ Conservatives and proud to see her re-elected to a Conservative leadership position in London".
Laura Gherman, former Vice Chair for Membership of the LGBT+ Conservatives, and former colleague of Emma when she was in post at LGBT+ Conservatives, responded to the news saying: "Emma’s re-election is not only a testament to her leadership, but also to her unwavering commitment to Londoners, especially the LGBT+ community. Having known Emma for a long time, I’ve seen firsthand her passion, diligence and authenticity. She’s a fierce advocate for inclusion, for small businesses and for our city’s cultural vibrancy — all of which are under threat from Labour’s complacency. I’m delighted to see her return to this role and know she’ll continue to be a powerful voice for all those who feel left behind by City Hall.”
