"We have the time" says Viscount Astor

Viscount Astor spoke in favour of the Marriage (same sex couples) Bill at 2nd Reading. In his speech he warned "to reject a Bill on Second Reading that has been passed by another place - however strong the opinions - would have a grave knock-on effect on the relationship between the two Houses".  His full speech can be read here.

Baroness Stowell introduces Equal Marriage Bill to the Lords

At 3.10pm on Monday 3 June, Baroness Stowell, government spokesperson on Women and Equalities, stood at the dispatch box in the House of Lords to introduce the Marriage (same sex couples) Bill to the Upper House.  You can read what she said here.

Equalities Minister speaking on new clause 15 on humanist same-sex weddings

Equalities Minister, Maria Miller, spoke on the subject of humanist weddings, arguing that they should not be added to the Marriage (same sex couples) Bill.  Although, in our briefing to MPs, we supported this new clause, we believe it was probably wise that it was withdrawn in the end.
